Alex Bertels: junior in computer science

Hometown: Dorsey, Ill. Alex Bertels was on the robotics team in high school. After just his first semester at S&T, he was hired to work as a student teaching assistant for the Intro to Programming Labs on campus.

Research: With faculty supervision, Bertels is working on a project called “Automated Fitness Guided Fault Localization,” which, of course, is a branch of “Co-evolutionary Automated Software Correction.”

What he likes most about college: “After getting job offers from my top choice companies and getting to know many extraordinary students and teachers, I think my favorite thing about college is that if you want something bad enough and you’re willing to work hard and make some sacrifices along the way, then there are plenty of opportunities at college to help you get where you want to go.”
