Brice Curtin, senior in chemistry

Hometown: St. Louis
In high school, Brice Curtin was on the swim team. His favorite book is Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, his favorite movie is Dazed and Confused, and his favorite musician is Bob Dylan.

Research: “My first research project at S&T was on aerogels as drug delivery devices,” Curtin says. “After the initial testing, we moved to trying to adsorb insulin on aerogel. My current research involves utilizing a photo-degradable ‘surfactant’ to synthesize nanocrystals, which will be used for optical purposes.”

Outside the lab:
Curtin is the secretary of the university’s International Genetically Engineered Machines (iGEM) Team. He also likes to go fishing at Little Prairie Lake.
