A native of Fenton, Mo., Huskey attended school full-time while working and raising a daughter. “I went to the local community college and then on to technical school right out of high school,” she says. She earned a degree in electronics engineering and technical project management while working in the IT department of a health care company.
But after being laid off a few years ago, Huskey and her husband moved to St. James, Mo., to be closer to family. She joined S&T’s Video Communications Center as a video production assistant. There, she helped other non-traditional students get a Missouri S&T education through online and distance offerings.
In that environment, “I kept thinking about all the opportunities that were available to me and started to look into a project management certificate,” says Huskey.
So she decided to enroll in the certification program. “The experience was great,” she says. “I learned a lot from my professors.”
But she didn’t want to stop with a certificate. The faculty she met through that program “opened my eyes and made me realize that what I really wanted was my MBA.”
So she applied for the program. “Almost immediately, I recognized that it was a perfect fit for me.”
Now a coordinator with S&T’s distance and continuing education department, Huskey graduated with her master’s in business administration in December 2012.
“The faculty and staff were the big reasons I chose Missouri S&T — and the fact that graduates from Missouri S&T are top notch,” she says.
